Week 20/21 - Siem Reap

And in the evenings we just had some food. Or not in poor Mia's case. She was pretty sick. In the head. HA.

One evening we went to see a guy called Dr Beat. He was in Cambodia during the 70's when the Khmer Rouge was in power. He returned to help the devastation. So he's dedicated his life to helping children of Cambodia and is on to buidling his 5th hospital. When I say we went to see him... let me explain. He plays the cello, and gets an audience in and then tells them about what he's done, shows a fascinating video about his work and then asks for donations etc. It was all so interesting and he's a truly remarkable man.

See some of the footage of the truly sick kids, who can't even get healthcare made us think how lucky the kids in the orphanage were. Crazy thought. You can read more about him if you like -

I really wanted to donate blood but wasn't too sure about it. Plus we were leaving the day after. No excuse really is it.

And also one evening whilst sitting eating dinner we caught a great fireworks display. We had prime spot where we were eating dinner. And the same evening as we were walking home and getting hassled by the usual 'hey lady do you want a tuk tuk' or 'hey do you want to go to Angkor wat lady', or a woman holiday a baby and making hungry gestures etc. Anyway we were so used to just saying no and walking on but go taken by surprise as the tuk tuk man said 'hey, you want to get sttoonnneed lady?!' We felt abut laughing and carried on walking. Luckily I was wearing my 'say no to drugs' badge on though so we didn't have any more such like requests.
