SE Asia In a Nutshell
My travels began 5 months ago
When I took a flight to Bangkok,
I was happy to find, everyone was so kind,
And I didn't get any culture shock.
The initial plan was to teach for 4 weeks
In a primary and less fortunate school,
But that woman and her frown turned that upside down,
Coz she was a crazy schizerphrenic Thai fool.
So we took off down south to a place called Phuket,
To find a new project to volunteer,
But we had no such luck, just looking began to suck
So we spent a few days in the sun with a beer.
The time finally came to go separate ways
To Kim and Vicky we said our goodbye,
Then just Stephen and me bussed it up mountain trees
And settled down in a town called Chiang Mai.
Three weeks we spent in an orphanage there
With small kids whose parents they did lack,
I fell in love with them all and we had such a bawl,
And I now have 2 of them tucked in my back pack!
Then Rachel arrived, it was so nice to see
A familiar face from far Kent
We met Stephen's friends too, and all gelled like glue
And round the south islands we went.
Then the day came for Rachel to leave
And for the others too, it had come to an end,
But that wasn't so bad, coz then Sarah I had
As my beautiful and new travel friend.
We slept under those stars and swam a lagoon
The moon party we raved at was great,
My birthday was neat, the rice boat a treat
And I spent it with such a kind special mate.
The day after that Sarah had to go home
I remember feeling ever so sad
But I stopped feeling blue, when I joined a new crew
And then fell for a liverpool lad.
As you can see this pattern occured
Someone left and I was sent someone new,
So next in line it was posh Jan with her wine
And off we went to travel round as a two.
Laos welcomed us in to show us some sights
Only lacking any beautiful beaches,
The tubing was fun, and city cycling in the sun
We even enjoyed all the fights with the leeches!
Next we flew on to hectic Hanoi
Then further south a big flood in HoiAn
We split up in Saigon as I didn't want to move on
So it was time to say goodbye to Jan.
Cambodia up next and I got there alone
But at the orphanage I met up with Mia,
The kids were all ill but they hid it so well
And their smiles often brought me a tear.
We went on to see the great Angkor Wat
And one evening Dr Beat played his cello,
Then it was back to Phnom Penh, killing fields full of brave men
Where it was quiet and chillingly mellow.
We flew back Bangkok where I stayed a few days
I saw Jan there and Mia moved on,
I'd already seen all the sights, so I booked on to a flight
But this time everyone around me had gone.
I got myself down to dear Singapore
And enjoyed all the time on my own,
Three days all it took; sights, beach and my book,
Any more and I'd have had to take out a loan.
Now to you SE Asia I'm saying goodbye
5 months have passed by much too quick,
But I will return soon, maybe do another full moon,
Because you're addictive and totally magic xxxxxx
