Flying Free
For a while now I hadn't done much insane
So I decided to jump from a flying plane.
The night before I questioned why
I'd agreed to do something so up in the sky.
So I text a friend who had done it before
He said it was great and i'd enjoy it for sure.
The nerves really set in when I woke on the day
Elianne and I didn't have too much to say.
We got picked up early and taken to the place
Everyone waiting had worries on their face.
But we didn't have to wait long and got shown right through
And had a quick demonstration of what we should do:
"When it's your turn to jump you'll be hung off the side,
You must put your head back and enjoy the ride!"
From this point on it all went so quick
I didn't even have time to start feeling sick.
I got put on the plane and strapped to my guy
And within 5 or 6 minutes we were up really high.
Looking out the window I felt my heart thump
I couldn't quite believe that I was really going to jump.
The view was fantastic, everything looked so small
And in 10 or so minutes towards it i'd fall.
Then the door opened, Elianne was first
My heart really felt like it could jump out and burst.
I watched as she jumped and disappear in to nout
And knowing it was now my turn I let out a shout...
"BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP"
Apologies for the swearing but it was that or i'd weep.
Shuffled to the edge, I pushed my head back
Now it really did feel like i could have a heart attack.
And then I was out.
Flying free.
That was me.
Through the air.
Without a care.
60 seconds I fell from the sky,
It really did feel like I was learning to fly.
Wind in my face.
Clouds I did chase.
Arms stretched right out,
I had another shout:
"HAPPYYY CHRISSSTMAAAS"
And managed to blow my family a kiss.
That free fall went way too fast
If I could have bottled it i'd so make it last.
Because it is the best feeling ever, nothing has come close
And instead of medication, THAT should be a dose.
The parachute came.
But still far from tame.
And even though i'd had such a bawl
I still had 4,000 feet to fall.
Swirling to the left.
Swirling to the right.
I was strapped to my german guy ever so tight.
So he started to undo things which I couldn't quite believe
I dropped a couple of inches and we continued to weave.
Floating down and my thoughts became clear
I realised that there had been nothing to fear.
Once again I was feeling quite proud
And even now, my head is still up in that cloud.
I do have a way to go yet before my jump is complete
But when I'm ready, i'll land firmly on my feet.
