Shopping
So how do girls bond best? Shopping!! Yes we did lots of shopping over our first couple of days together. Maybe I got one or two new dresses, and maybe a new bikini. We also shopped around for tickets to various places and eventually decided to head to Laos first. We planned a bit of what we wanted to do over the next 6ish weeks and then got back to all the shopping. We had applied for our visa in to Vietnam and had to wait a few days which was why we were sticking around. We also wanted to go to a market we'd heard about which was only on the weekends. During our outtings we got to know eachother loads and realised how alike we are. We also started making a mental list about what we want to get out of life. So far we have:
- pool sharks
Ok we've got to work on it a bit more...
Tattoo
So I had an itch on my wrist and realised that something was missing. A new tattoo. I'd been thinking about it for a while but wasn't sure what to get. Then I saw a cool design. We went in the studio and spent a few hours umming and arrring. Jan wanted to get one as well but she wasn't as decided as me. I got the guy to re-design it a bit so there was some musical detail in it and away he went. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (that's the noise of the needle). Jan decided not to get one as she wasn't sure.
But then the next day she was sure and went and got 3 stars on her back. Very cute. And very brave!! Can I just take this moment to say that I in no way influenced her to get it done. I was just there to hold her hand...
The Haircut
After 3 months it was time for a haircut. But it was more of an ordeal than the tattoo. I watched her every snip and made sure nothing drastic was happening. She did an alright job though.
Cinema
We went to the cinema one night and watched 'Bangkok Dangerous' a new film with Nicolas Cage in it. It was ok. Very Nicolas Cage. Very Bangkok Dangerous. James joined us as well. James is a friend of Jan's. She went to school with him in Belgium and hadn't seen him for about 5 years. He also took us to a couple of bars out of town so was nice to be shown around.
Chatuchak Wknd Market
Wow. Imagine 8000 stalls in the Bangkok heat. Just trust me on this one. It's flaming hot and tiring. Really cool market though. We got there fairly early to avoid too much heat but were still there 5 hours later so we failed at that one!! There were little musical performances going on though. The kids had loads of energy and it was really nice to watch. We also had to have a foot massage to cope with the surroundings.
Soi Cowboy
I won't go into it but a random place and then we chatted to the least convincing ladyboy that I'd seen so far!
Floating market
One day we took ourselves off to the Floating Market. It's about 2 hours drive out of Bangkok so we went with a tour thing. It was really cheap to do. So we got driven 2 hours, then popped in to a boat and off we went along the river and taken to the floating market. I's everything you see in pictures. Really colourful, with lots of buzz and loads going on. We really liked it and glad we went. Early start though! Ooo and we loved the woman with the 'amazing' hat!
Seeing the boys again
As we had been in Bangkok for a few days we were still there when the boys I'd been at the last full moon came back. Their holiday was coming to an end and they only had a couple of days to go. We went and watched 'The Beach' which was pretty poor after reading the book and then in the evening where else to go but The Koah San Road. Was a funny night with Greg giving in to a street seller and buying not 1, not 2, but 3 frogs (wooden, not real), and wongy playing thumb war with a street kid (the kids always win). Tnext day they did a load of shopping, we watched Batman in a bar and then they reluctantly went off home.
