Sarah had to leave early the next day to get her flight. She somehow managed to get free of the rope i'd tied her with to keep her from leaving, AND she found her passport... so I admitted defeat, allowed her to pack her bits and we went for our goodbye breakfast. Eventually it was time for her to leave and we hugged (and cried) it out and she was off. I was really sad to see her go as we'd had such a great time. Also in my head I had only really thought about my trip up to Sarah leaving and so I was a bit nervous about now being completely on my own. But excited about it as well. I returned to our room and just mooched around for a few hours, reading my bday cards and looking at pressies and stuff. Then I had a quick research of where I was going to go and stay, packed up my stuff and checked out.
It was only a 15 minute walk so I braced the midday Bangkok heat with all my luggage and headed to the hostel i'd picked out. Before I knew it I was unpacking my PJ's in my new temp home. Easy. Nothing is ever as bad or scary as you think. I had a little doze and then headed out to the Koah San Road to get some bits.
Remember Anthony? From the Black Moon Party. Me and Sarah had met him there. Well as I was wandering about I bumped in to him and his pal Simon. We all had some dinner together. Simon was heading home the next day and Anthony was staying in Bangkok for a few days so we hung out together for a couple of days.
On the second night we went to the Siam Centre which is a huge shopping precinct. I fancied some Sushi which they did in there. In these centres you have to go and buy vouchers first and then you use the vouchers to get the food. So we decided to try a few different foods. First was my sushi fix, although I wasn't convinced the guy cutting the stuff was a trained sushi chef! Then was the red and green cury. HOT! Really hot. And then Anthony chose the last dish, thinking it would be fun to choose a soup that wasn't translated to english. So we sat and ate through the blocks of blood, some sort of arterie, liver and something else really chewie that I couldn't quite face. It wasn't great but actually the broth really was. Just the content was nasty. Then we found the saxophone pub that I was keen on finding. A small band with a woman singer. She was awesome. We stayed for a couple of drinks but it was pretty expensive so we made our way back to the usual Koah San Road.
As we sat in a bar, Anthony saw 3 of his friends from back home. Greg, Alex and Wongy (Phil). He didn't know they were in Thailand so was a coincidence. We all got on and had a really fun night. Oh except for Anthony putting a cockroach in my bag. No joke. I actually got really annoyed, but not because of what he did but after he told me he didn't really do it. Luckily I had my 'I don't trust you' head on and made him open the bag. The cockroach flew out. I HATE THEM!!! Anyway the boys were just on a 2 week holiday and were heading south the next day. They were flying to Samui and then going to the full moon party. My brain started ticking. Shall I go to Koh PhagNan for the 3rd time in a month?? Hmmmm. I had to be in Bangkok for just after the wknd as I was meeting my new travel pal (a whole new story which I'll fill you in on later). Anyway it was up to me to decide whether I'd chill in Bangkok on my own or go for some more moon partying fun once again.
I wanted to stay in Bangkok another day anyway as Stephen was coming back from Cambodia and I wanted to say goodbye to him before he went home. He arrived late Wednesday evening and we all went for dinner. I introduced him to Anthony and they got on well. All these people are bloody northeners by the way. I can't seem to get away from meeting them. Trying my best though :)
(canned laughter)
So Stephen filled us in on Cambodia. I don't think he liked it very much, he only took about 2 breathes in 4 hours talking about it... Cambodia this, Cambodia that. Blah blah blah... only joking Stephen - looking forward to going there myself!!
The next day we went for a bit of tourism and made it over to the Grand Palace. It was a great little trip, although we went at midday which was probably really daft. Sweaty Betty. And quote of the day came from Anthony as we entered the Grand Palace grounds:
"Have either you ever been to legoland? Now THAT's impressive..."
Maybe you had to be there but it was actually really funny at the time.
We had a little boat trip up the river and then a look around china town. Got lost in china town and tried to get back to the pier. We did ask a local but I'm not sure he knew what we were looking for. Then a bloke who probably could see we looked confused told us to get on a bus to get to the pier. So we did, but it actually took us right back to Koah San Road. And we didn't have to pay either so was a result.
Stephen had some shopping to do for taking pressies home and then he was off. I didn't envy him going home. Don't get me wrong I do miss you all but 3 months would not be quite enough. It really flies by.
So I was still faced with my partying or chilling decision. Which do you think I went for? Hmmmm tough one eh! Yep. Me and Anthony went and bought our bus tickets down south and that evening we were off.
So all in all I was actually only on my own in Bangkok for about 4 hours.
