Interview with Janaina Topley Lira
Anya: What are you drinking?
Janaina: Banana Daquiri. But it's not my favourite drink, just an experiment!
Anya: So what's with the name?
Janaina: Haha. Well basically I'm the goddess of the sea.
Anya: Really?
Janaina: No. Topley is my mother's name. She's from Norfolk. She's a feminist which is why her name comes first! And Lira is my dad's name. He is from Brazil.
Anya: Oh so you speak languages?
Janaina: Yep. I grew up in Belgium. I speak French, Portugese, Spanish, Italian.
Anya: Is that it?
Janaina: Yes.
Anya: I can say 'I'm going to the toilet' in Polish.
Janaina: Cool
Anya: Thanks. So how young are you Jan?
Janaina: I'm only 26!! And a young 26 at that!
Anya: ME TOO! High five to 26!! So how did you first hear about me?
Janaina: On Mango Tree. It's a funky travel buddy website. I loved your profile and think I actually plagerised some of it.
Anya: Seriously!!
Janaina: Yes seriously. So I emailed you to see what your plans were and you replied! And the rest is history!
Anya: What book were you reading before you came away?
Janaina: The Road Less Travelled
Anya: ME TOO!! Where else have you travelled before meeting me?
Janaina: I started off in India for 4 weeks. 3 weeks with my mum and a week on my own. Then I met a friend for 10 days in the Phillapines. She's a friend from Brussels - Caz.
Anya: Did you friends think that because you met me on the internet that I must be an axe murdering man?
Janaina: Yes
Anya: ME TOO! What's your favourite colour?
Janaina: Pink!
Anya: Me too!! My room at home is actually painted in 'sexy pink', haha. Unless my absence has been taken full advantage of and painted to a normal colour again!
Do you play any instruments?
Janaina: Yes, the piano
Anya: ME TOO!
Janaina: And I was learning the guitar before I came away
Anya: Cool. Are you a classical music geek?
Janaina: Yep
Anya: ME TOO!! Who's your favourite classical composer?
Janaina: Definitely Rachmaninov
Anya: ME TOO!! And why is he your favourite?
Janaina: Because of a film I saw based on his music - Shine.
Anya: ME TOO! That's one of my favourite films!!
Are you good at pool?
Janaina: No
Anya: Me neither. Would you like to be good at pool?
Janaina: Yes I'd love to. I'm actually learning to be a pool shark!
Anya. Nice one. Me too. So how many fingers am I holding up?
Janaina: Four?
Anya: ME TOO! Shortsighted/Longsighted?
Janaina: Shortsighted
Anya: Me too! Favourite animal?
Janaina: Dolphin
Anya: Brothers and sisters?
Janaina: 2 brothers and 2 sisters
Anya: What do you want to be when yu grow up?
Janaina: An eco warrior mum who makes people happy
Anya: And what if that doesn't work out for you?
Janaina: Backing dancer, landscape designer, writer, pattisserie chef, wimbledon champion or a nobel prize winner for something I've written or a pool shark.
Anya: Let's hope the eco stuff works out for you then!
What size feet are you?
Janaina: 6
Anya: ME TOO!! What colour hair have you got?
Janaina: Chestnut/chocolote brown with some highlights.
Anya: Oh that's where we differ because mine is completely natural...
