"Some time ago, a group of tourists found that the most beautiful moon was in Koh Pha Ngan. They arranged a party along the crescent shaped beach of Haad Rin to celebrate the full moon night. From then on, people from all over the world come to join in the celebration. There are now about 10,000 people at the party each month. The party begins at dusk when the round yellow moon makes an appearance over the white sand beach. As the evening progresses the beach explodes in to a dancing frenzy as different DJ's take their turns on the decks. Fire Jugglers and fire eaters entertain their crowds as the night goes on and with the impromtu fireworks display, the party atmosphere is complete."
So there we were sat at the pier in Koh Tao, waiting for our boat to Koh PhagNan. We waiting for quite a while amongst a big group of people. It was pretty hot by now. Finally a boat arrived, and people got off an walked past us. Probably wondering why everyone looked so flaming miserable...
Some sea sickness tablets and a few hours later, and we arrived at our destination. It's always quite bizarre when you arrive somewhere as there's so many Thai people trying to sell you either a cab or accommodation. Like right in your face. This lot started before anyone even got off the ferry. Ferry? Boat. Me and Billie wtched them from inside the boat, shouting and screaming through the window. Quite amusing. This was after we'd both just confessed to eachother that we'd previously eaten a big bag of biscuits to ourselves when everyone else was asleep. You'd understand if you tasted them. Once you stop and all that...
ANYWAY... we grabbed a taxi thing and were on our way to our accommodation that we had previously booked. Hollie, Same, Billie and Rosie had booked somewhere else so we arranged to meet up with them later. As we drove along the rather hilly road, the scenery of Koh PhaNgan looked beautiful. We jumped out (almost quite literally) at our place. Thong Yang. They didn't have anything for 3 people so we were shown to our 2 little huts which perched on the side of a huge rocky hill. Mine and Rachel's bathroom had been built around rocks so the shower was a big bit of rock with a shower head at the top. You had to do a balancing act to wash your hair. I loved it, but forgot to take a picture. So bikinis went straight on and we walked down a few steps and there we were on a secluded little beach. We always seem to find ourselves heading out at the height of the day. Doh. I got my cream on, lay down and t all just slipped right off. The heat was just so immense. I think probably the hottest sun so far. So me and Rachel went for a dip in the sea, hoping to cool down. But it was pretty shallow, so there was no relief. I think the old "Oooo you could stick a t-bag in here" comment was made by one of us. Probably me because I'm quick witted like that. But yes. It was hot. Our ankles actually felt like they were burning a bit. But we waded in and sat chatting, taking in the perfection of our surroundings. Everything was so still and quiet. Apart from a bit of Bob Marley playing in the distance. At that moment I turned to Rachel and commented on us being in actual paradise. At that moment about 6 lads completely toned and tanned waded in to the sea as well. We laughed as I repeated the paradise comment. Haha. So we had a chat to a couple of them but they were soon scared off when Stephen showed up. Haha. Only joking.
We had 4 nights on the island. It was Thursday and the full moon party was on the Saturday. Here's how the nights went on in a nutshell:
Thursday night - we met up in town, checked out a bar or two and then headed to the beach. Everything in the opening paragraph was happening already. It wasn't quite the full moon yet but there was lots of pre partying to be done. We ended up at a pool party. From the beach there were free taxis which me and Billie hung on the back of. It just kept taking herds of people there... I'm not going to go in to it, but there was a pool, with lots of partying in it. This pool party resulted with my phone packing up. Not sure why I took my phone anyway but nevermind. My nasty ear infection I got after that wknd was another result.
Friday - Lots of lounging about and relaxing in the day. We decided to try and take it easy in the evening but it pretty much went the same as the evening before. Just without the pool. So just lots of partying :) Oh yes and when we got back to the hut I had a cockroach leap out of my dress. It was awful. Stephen threw a load of objects at it and saved the day. I kept thinking I had bugs in my dress after that.
Saturday - FULL MOON PARTY!!!
Lots of craziness on the beach. This included RAVE PAINT. It's illuminous paint that you throw akk over yourself, or draw intricate designs. one of the 2. We spent a good couple of hours rave painting ourselves up in the outback bar before heading to the beach.
Sunday - Lots of sleeping and lazing, with a big dinner in the evening and an, ready for the journey to our next destination the following day.
